Capital Compass & Key LIVE Ep. 5 |Why Your CPA, Financial Advisor, and Tax Planner Rarely Talk to Each Other
Issue # 12
Why Your CPA, Financial Advisor, and Tax Planner Rarely Talk to Each Other
One of the things I've observed over the years is that most professional advisors are highly specialized.
That's a good thing.
CPAs focus on taxes. Attorneys focus on legal matters. Bankers focus on financing. Insurance professionals focus on risk management. Financial advisors focus on investments and planning.
The challenge isn't finding qualified professionals.
The challenge is making sure all of those professionals are working together toward the same objective.
As families and businesses become more complex, I believe one of the greatest opportunities for advisors is helping coordinate those conversations. In many cases, clients aren't looking for more expertise.
They're looking for someone who can help connect expertise across multiple disciplines.
This conversation explores:
• why specialization is still important
• the growing role of the advisor as a coordinator
• how business, tax, legal, and financial decisions overlap
• why understanding the family and the business matters
• creating a more holistic planning experience
How saving clients time can create significant value
Throughout my career, I've found that some of the most effective planning happens when advisors understand not only the technical details of their specialty, but also how those recommendations affect the broader family and business picture.
For many business owners, the family and the business are deeply connected. Understanding one often helps you better understand the other.
Ultimately, the goal isn't simply to provide another service.
The goal is to help clients make better decisions, reduce complexity, and create a coordinated strategy that supports what matters most to them.
Capital Compass & Key LIVE is a series where I share business perspective, long-term thinking, and lessons shaped through decades of experience working with business owners, families, and capital markets.
