When Should You Consider a Roth Conversion? | Capital Compass & Key LIVE Ep. 12

Why understanding your tax bracket today can help you make smarter retirement decisions tomorrow.

One of the most common questions I hear is:

"When does a Roth conversion actually make sense?"

The answer isn't the same for everyone.

A Roth conversion isn't simply about moving money from one account to another. It's about understanding your current tax situation and deciding whether paying taxes today could create greater flexibility in retirement.

In this episode of Capital Compass & Key LIVE, I discuss why timing plays such an important role in tax planning and retirement strategy.

In this conversation, we discuss:

  • When a Roth conversion may make sense
  • Why your marginal tax rate matters
  • How tax brackets influence long-term planning
  • The role of Social Security timing in retirement
  • Why every retirement strategy should be personalized

One of the concepts I spend a lot of time explaining to clients is that tax rates aren't just numbers.

They're planning tools.

When we can visualize where someone's income falls within today's tax brackets, it becomes much easier to understand whether a Roth conversion makes sense now or whether waiting may produce a better outcome.

The same principle applies to Social Security.

Some people benefit from claiming earlier. Others benefit from waiting until full retirement age or even age 70. The right decision depends on factors like expected longevity, current income, future tax rates, and overall retirement goals.

There isn't one answer that fits everyone.

That's why retirement planning isn't about following general rules. It's about understanding how all the pieces work together and building a strategy around your individual circumstances.

The goal isn't simply to reduce taxes today.

It's to make thoughtful financial decisions that support your long-term retirement plan.

That's the perspective I hope to share through Capital Compass & Key LIVE—practical conversations that help business owners, families, and professionals think more strategically about taxes, investing, and long-term wealth.

Thank you for reading. I look forward to continuing the conversation in the next episode of Capital Compass & Key LIVE.
