How Do You Choose the Right CPA?
In this edition of Capital Compass & Key LIVE, I share some thoughts on a question many business owners and families eventually face:
How do you choose the right CPA?
Now, there are plenty of talented tax professionals. The challenge is finding the one whose process, communication style, and expertise align with what you need.
Throughout my career, I've spent a great deal of time working alongside CPAs, advisors, business owners, and families. One thing I've learned is that successful tax outcomes often begin long before a return is filed.
Good information matters.
Good organization matters.
Good communication matters.
In this conversation, we discuss the increasing demands placed on CPAs and why understanding their process can be just as important as understanding their credentials.
This conversation explores:
• The growing complexity of tax preparation
• Why coordinating documents is critical
• Common communication challenges during tax season
• The importance of accurate information
• Evaluating a CPA's systems and organization
• Finding the right fit for your unique situation
One phrase I often come back to is simple:
Wrong information, wrong taxes.
Once a problem has started, it can be difficult and costly to correct. That's why the best approach is often to focus on getting the process right from the beginning.
At the end of the day, there are many excellent CPAs. The goal isn't finding the "best" CPA. The goal is finding the right CPA for your needs and building a process that helps everyone succeed.
Capital Compass & Key LIVE is a series built around real business perspective, long-term thinking, and lessons shaped through decades of experience working with business owners, families, and advisors.
