What Is Your Tax Return Really Telling You?
Most people think of a tax return as something they complete once a year and then put away until next April.
I see it differently.
To me, a tax return is like an MRI. It provides a snapshot of where you are today, but it also helps identify opportunities, potential issues, and decisions that deserve a closer look. It's one of the best tools we have for understanding how a family's financial picture is changing over time.
In this edition of Capital Compass & Key LIVE, I discuss why a tax return should be more than a filing requirement. It can become a valuable planning tool when you understand what it's telling you.
This conversation explores:
- Why your tax return is a valuable planning tool
- How tax rates influence planning decisions
- When strategies like Roth conversions may make sense
- Using visuals to simplify complex financial decisions
- Identifying opportunities to save, defer, and plan more effectively
- Helping families focus on the decisions that matter most
One of the things I enjoy most about working with families is helping simplify complicated financial topics.
My goal isn't to walk someone through every tax form or line item. It's to help them understand what matters, what opportunities exist, and what decisions can improve their long-term financial picture.
A tax return tells a story.
The more you understand what it's saying, the better equipped you are to make thoughtful decisions for the future.
Capital Compass & Key LIVE is a series built around business perspective, tax strategy, and long-term planning, drawing on decades of experience working with business owners, families, and advisors.
